The Area
That Land
The Norse lived in a cold part of the world with long winters and short summers. Norway was very rocky, with lots of mountains, deep fjords, and narrow coastlines. This made farming difficult but sailing easier. Sweden was covered in thick forests and had many lakes and rivers, which were perfect for hunting and fishing. Denmark had flatter land and more open space, which was better for farming.

How They Used it
Their forests were home to animals like deer, bears, and wolves. The soil in Norway and Sweden was often too poor for growing many crops, so people raised animals or relied on fishing instead. The coast was full of fish and seabirds, which became a major food source. That’s why many people lived near the coast, not only for food, but also for easier travel and trade.

Wood from the forests was used to build homes, tools, and their famous longships. The tough landscape helped shape the Vikings into strong, skilful warriors who had to adapt to survive.
