Unveiling Norse Civilisation

The Vikings were fierce, brave and skilled sailors who lived more than a thousand years ago in Scandinavia. They travelled through many countries trading and buying but they weren’t only fierce sailor warriors they were also farmers and believers in gods like Thor, Odin and Loki.

Who they were

The Norse civilisation, also called the Vikings, came from Scandinavia, which today is Norway, Sweden and Denmark. They lived over 1,000 years ago and were known for being farmers, warriors, and brave explorers. They were known for building big wooden ships called longships, which they used to travel across the ocean. Some Vikings became raiders who were meant to attack towns and take treasure, while other Vikings were something called a peaceful trader who exchanged and traded goods with people as far a way as the middle east.

The Norse had many beliefs, but they mainly believed in the gods like Thor, the god of thunder, Odin, the god of wisdom and war, and Loki, the trickster god. They believed that the gods controlled lots of things likes the nature, battles and even their fate. Warriors had this belief that if they fought bravely in battle and died, they thought that they would be taken to Valhalla, which is this special place where they believed that they would go there and live forever with the god Odin. This made Viking warriors belief that even when they died, they would still live on in a special place. They had many stories or myths of crazy adventures, magic, monsters, and lesson about bravery and honour. Their religion was a big part of they and how they lived.
